Oily scalp and hair
|
How it is caused: This is always a scalp problem in which the sebaceous glands produce more oil than is necessary to keep hair and scalp soft and protected. However, really oily hair and scalp are not as common as most people think. Often, the culprit is perspiration or the hair is just extremely fine. Scalp secretions (perspiration and oil) are normal but are passed onto the hair very quickly.
How it is treated: Because the condition is caused by hormones, there is no cure. It can be controlled by keeping the scalp and hair clean and moisturized. Follow the ÆSTELANCE care ritual of Cleanse, Tone and, Moisturize, and you can gain a day or two between shampoos.

- Tip
- Avoid vigorous brushing because this distributes the oil more rapidly throughout the hair. Choose hair styles that can be washed and styled easily to avoid over-manipulation of the scalp and hair. Perms and highlights are great since they make the hair capable of absorbing oil better. This allows your hairstyle to keep its shape longer.
- CLEANSE
- O shampoo contains essential oils that have a calming effect. It is mild and with regular use you can gradually gain some time before shampooing again.
- TONE
- Using Balance or Calm scalp lotions can greatly improve the situation. For greater effect, customize either lotion by adding calming essential oils, Aromazones #3 and #4.
- MOISTURIZE
- Excessive shampooing, especially with aggressive cleansing agents, can cause more problems. The hair can become dehydrated, dry and unruly and the scalp can become dehydrated, tight, itchy and scaly. Mud mask rinse-out treatment or Hydrate leave-in conditioner are excellent remedies.
- DESIGN
- Styling products which are light and crisp, i.e. Style lotion, are preferable over heavier gels or mousses, especially for finer hair.
